Wisconsin Code § 60.01

Legal status; general powers

(1) A town is a
body corporate and politic, with those powers granted by law. A
town shall be designated in all actions and proceedings by its
name, as “Town of ....”.
(2) A town may:
(a) Sue and be sued.
(b) Acquire and hold real and personal property for public use
and convey and dispose of the property.
(c) Enter into contracts necessary for the exercise of its corporate powers.
