New York CNS Code § 27

Supreme court; extraordinary terms

§ 27. The governor may, when in his or her opinion the public interest\nrequires, appoint extraordinary terms of the supreme court. The governor\nshall designate the time and place of holding the term and the justice\nwho shall hold the term. The governor may terminate the assignment of\nthe justice and may name another justice in his or her place to hold the\nterm.\n
