Authorization to purchase liability insurance to cover pupil in work-based learning program

1. The board of trustees of a school
district or the governing body of a charter school that has been approved by
the State Board to offer a work-based learning program may purchase and
maintain insurance against any liability arising out of the participation of a
pupil in the work-based learning program. The coverage authorized by this
section must be obtained from an insurer who is authorized to do business in
this State.
2. A school district or charter school may
not directly or indirectly charge a pupil or the parent or legal guardian of a
pupil for the cost of obtaining insurance coverage pursuant to subsection 1.
3. The board of trustees of a school
district or the governing body of a charter school may accept gifts, grants and
donations from any source to purchase or maintain insurance coverage pursuant
to subsection 1.
