Asphyxia or Death From Submersion in Water, Reports, Investigations, Penalty.

Sec. 411c.
(1) Every physician or surgeon, having under his care a person who suffers from asphyxia or dies due to submersion in water, shall report same to any peace officer, the nearest state police post or the sheriff of the county in which the injury or death occurred. Every coroner or medical examiner who completes a death certificate attributing death to drowning shall make a like report to the appropriate officers hereinabove named.
(2) The officer receiving the report shall investigate the circumstances surrounding the injury or death and shall submit a complete report to the director of state police on forms prescribed by him. The department of natural resources shall receive from the director of state police a copy of the officer's report where the asphyxia or death occurred in waters under the jurisdiction of that department.
(3) Any person violating any provision of this section shall be guilty of a misdemeanor.
