Maine Criminal Justice Academy; purpose

1. Purpose of academy. The purpose of the Maine Criminal Justice Academy is to provide a
central training facility for criminal justice personnel. The academy shall promote the highest levels of
professional law enforcement performance and facilitate coordination and cooperation between various
criminal justice agencies.

2. Purpose of board of trustees. The purpose of the Maine Criminal Justice Academy Board of
Trustees is to protect the public health and welfare. The board carries out this purpose by ensuring that
the public is served by competent and honest criminal justice practitioners and by establishing minimum
standards of proficiency in the regulated professions by examining, licensing, regulating and
disciplining practitioners of those regulated professions, as are identified in this chapter. Other goals
or objectives may not supersede this purpose.
