Sec. 1. (a) Subject to rules adopted under IC 25-23.4-2-6 (b), a certified direct entry midwife must provide an initial screening of a client that includes an assessment of health conditions that require a referral to a physician under subsection (c). (b) Subject to rules adopted under IC 25-23.4-2-6 (b), a certified direct entry midwife shall refer a client to a physician in the client's first and third trimester of pregnancy. (c) If a client has a health condition that makes the client at risk, the certified direct entry midwife shall, subject to rules adopted under IC 25-23.4-2-6 (b): (1) refer the client to a licensed physician; and (2) consult with the physician concerning the client's care.
