Illinois Code § 5 ILCS 70/1.37

Intellectual disability.

Except where the context indicates otherwise, in any rule, contract, or other document a reference to the term "mental retardation" shall be considered a reference to the term "intellectual disability" and a reference to a mentally retarded person or a similar reference shall be considered a reference to a person with an intellectual disability. The use of either "mental retardation" or "intellectually disabled", or "mentally retarded" or "person with an intellectual disability" shall not invalidate any rule, contract, or other document.
