The Sheriff of Pickens County, with approval of the Pickens County Commission, may contract with the sheriff and county commission of another county to provide for the housing of inmates from the other county in the county jail and for other components of inmate care, including, but not limited to, rehabilitation, education, food, and food preparation goods or services. The contract may specify which agency, office, individual, or entity is responsible for any component of inmate care and may specify that any component of inmate care be provided by the county commission, sheriff, or supernumerary sheriff based on a per day rate per inmate. Any sheriff authorized by general or local law to keep and retain any food allowance may continue to do so under the terms of any contract. All money from the contracts less any food allowance retained by the sheriff shall be deposited in a special account in the county treasury and used for the purposes of this section and for the operation of the sheriff’s office.
