Training and Education in Life Skills for Prisoners; Contracts; Funding; Feeding of Prisoners

(a)(1) In Pickens County, the sheriff may establish programs to train and educate prisoners in the county jail in life skills, including, but not limited to, agriculture, vocational training, and drug abuse rehabilitation. (2) The sheriff may contract with persons to provide services related to any training and educational programs established pursuant to subdivision (1). (3) Any crops grown pursuant to any agricultural program may be used to improve the diet of prisoners in the county jail. (4) Any training and educational programs established pursuant to this section may be funded from any funds of the sheriff including discretionary funds such as jail store funds, pistol permit funds, law enforcement funds, and work release funds. (b) Notwithstanding any other provision of law, the Sheriff of Pickens County may use any discretionary funds of the sheriff to supplement funds for the feeding of prisoners in the county jail, including jail store funds, pistol permit funds, law enforcement funds, and work release funds.
