Compensation of guardian ad litem

Unless the
court otherwise directs or unless a petition to the court under this
chapter is dismissed, the court shall order reasonable compensation to be paid to a guardian ad litem appointed under s. 54.40 (1)
from the ward’s income or assets, if sufficient, or, if insufficient,
by the county of venue. If a petition to the court under this chapter is dismissed, the court shall order the petitioner to pay the
compensation of the guardian ad litem. If the court orders a
county to pay the compensation of the guardian ad litem, the
amount ordered may not exceed the compensation paid to a private attorney under s. 977.08 (4m) (b) . The guardian ad litem
shall receive compensation for performing all duties required under s. 54.40 (4) and for any other acts that are approved by the
court and are reasonably necessary to promote the ward’s best
interests.
