(1)
The registration period for all vehicles registered on an annual basis, other than private automobiles, motor trucks having a registered weight of 8,000 pounds or less, taxicabs, those eligible for
quarterly registration under s. 341.30, and driver education vehicles, shall be determined by the secretary. The secretary may require that any of the vehicles subject to this section be registered
according to the monthly series system under s. 341.295.
(2) If an application for registration of a vehicle subject to
registration on an annual or biennial basis is received less than 2
months prior to the beginning of any registration period and the
vehicle is not registered in this state at the time of application and
the applicant desires to register for the succeeding registration period as well as for the remainder of the current period, the department upon registering the vehicle shall issue registration plates
designed for the succeeding registration period rather than for the
current period. Such plates also serve during the remainder of the
current registration period as lawful evidence of the registration
of the vehicle. This subsection does not affect computation of fee
payable by the applicant.
