Chief surgeons

(1) The chief surgeons for the
army and air national guard shall, under direction of the adjutant
general, have general supervision of the medical units of the national guard and, if organized, the state defense force. The chief
surgeons shall make recommendations concerning the procurement of medical supplies and services for state active duty operations, the procurement and training of medical personnel, and the
publication of national guard directives on medical subjects.
(2) The chief surgeons for the army and the air national guard
shall provide for any physical examinations and inoculations of
officers, enlistees, and applicants for enlistment in the national
guard that are prescribed by U.S. department of defense and national guard regulations.
