Wisconsin Code § 168.16

Duties of department

(1) The department shall
enforce this subchapter. Inspection districts shall be defined and
numbered by the department.
(2) Any accident or explosion involving products of petroleum which comes to the knowledge of the department shall be
investigated to determine whether or not there has been a violation of this subchapter.
(3) The department may, upon request of state agencies or local authorities, assist in the investigation of hazardous situations
involving suspected or known products of petroleum.
(4) The department may promulgate reasonable rules relating
to the administration and enforcement of this subchapter.
