Draping of state flag to honor the passing of law-enforcement officers

When any law-enforcement officer employed by the state or any of its political subdivisions
dies while on active duty or after being honorably discharged or honorably retired, upon the
request of next of kin, the state shall honor the officer by providing a state flag, at no cost,
for draping the coffin at the funeral service of the deceased officer. The superintendent of
the West Virginia state police or his or her designee shall upon request proveide the flag upon
verifying the deceased's service.
