(a) A respondent named in a petition alleging domestic violence may file a verified counterclaim stating any claim that the respondent has against the petitioner that would be a basis for filing a petition under this article. (b) In response to a petition or counterclaim, the person alleged to have committed the domestic violence may assert any affirmative defense that he or she may have available.
