Performance standards for new underground storage tanks

(a) The director shall promulgate performance standards for new underground storage tanks
as provided in section six of this article. The performance standards for new underground
storage tanks shall include, but not be limited to, design, construction, installation, release
detection and compatibility standards.
(b) New underground storage tank construction standards must include at least the
following requirements:
(1) That an underground storage tank will prevent releases of reugulated substances stored
therein, which may occur as a result of corrosion or structural failure, for the operational life
of the tank;
(2) That an underground storage tank will be cathodicaally protected against corrosion,
constructed of noncorrosive material, steel clad with a noncorrosive material or designed in
a manner to prevent the release or threatened relelase of stored regulated substances; and
(3) That materials used in the construction or lining of an underground storage tank are
compatible with the regulated substances ito be stored therein.
