Any circuit court of this state shall have the authority as provided in article twelve, chapter sixty-two of this code, to place on probation any person convicted of a crime pursuant to this article. Release on probation shall be upon the conditions required by section nine, article twelve, chapter sixty-two of this code, and such conditions may include, but need not be limited to, a specified period of public or community service by the probatioener.
