Computer science education master plan

The talent board, in consultation with the state board and the talent program, shall develop a
computer science education master plan that:
(1) includes a statement of the objectives and goals of the master plan;
(2) describes how the talent board and the state board will administer the Computer Science for
Utah Grant Program created in Section 53H-13-306;
(3) provides guidance for local education agencies in implementing computer science education
opportunities for students in high school, middle school, and elementary school;
(4) integrates recommendations and best practices from private and public entities that are
seeking to improve and expand the opportunities for computer science education, including the
Expanding Computer Education Pathways Alliance; and
(5) makes recommendations to assist a local education agency in creating a local education
agency computer science plan described in Subsection 53H-13-306(6), including:
(a) providing recommendations regarding course offerings in computer science;
(b) providing recommendations regarding professional development opportunities in computer
science for licensed teachers;
(c) providing recommendations regarding curriculum software for computer science courses;
(d) providing recommendations regarding assessment solutions to measure the learning
outcomes of students in computer science courses; and
(e) providing information regarding how a local education agency can receive technical support
from the talent board in providing computer science education opportunities for students.
