Utah Code § 26B-6-605

Commitment -- Individual who is 18 years old or older

(1) The director, or the director's designee may commit to the division an individual 18 years old
or older who has an intellectual disability, for observation, diagnosis, care, and treatment if that
commitment is based on:
(a) involuntary commitment in accordance with Section 26B-6-608; or
(b) temporary emergency commitment in accordance with Section 26B-6-607.
(2) If an individual who is 18 years old or older is committed to the custody of the Utah State
Developmental Center by the juvenile court, the director or the director's designee shall give
the juvenile court written notice of the intention to release the individual not fewer than five days
before the day on which the individual is released.
