Voluntary admission of adults

(1) A local mental health authority, a designee of a local mental health authority, or another mental
health facility may admit for observation, diagnosis, care, and treatment an adult who applies
for voluntary admission and who has a mental illness or exhibits the symptoms of a mental
illness.
(2) No adult may be committed to a local mental health authority against that adult's will except as
provided in this chapter.
(3) An adult may be voluntarily admitted to a local mental health authority for treatment at the Utah
State Hospital as a condition of probation or stay of sentence only after the requirements of
Section 77-18-106 have been met.
