Sec. 659.041. DEFINITIONS. In this subchapter: (1) "Appointment" means a job title. (2) "Full-time state employee" means: (A) a state employee who works in the executive or judicial branch of state government, other than a state institution of higher education, and who is normally scheduled to work a total of at least 40 hours a week for a single state agency; (B) a state employee who works for a state institution of higher education and who is normally scheduled to work a total of at least 40 hours a week in one position, as determined under Section 659.0411 ; or (C) a state employee who works in the legislative branch of state government and who is normally scheduled to work a total of 40 or more hours a week in all positions held in the legislative branch. (3) "Part-time state employee" means a state employee who is not a full-time state employee. (4) "State employee" means an individual who: (A) is covered by Chapter 654 ; (B) holds a line item or exempt position; (C) works in a nonacademic position at a state institution of higher education at least 20 hours a week for at least 4.5 consecutive months; or (D) is an hourly employee of the state.
