Sec. 521.144. APPLICATION BY NEW STATE RESIDENT. (a) A new resident of this state who applies for a driver's license must submit with the application: (1) evidence that each motor vehicle owned by the person is registered under Chapter 502 ; or (2) an affidavit that the applicant does not own a motor vehicle required to be registered under Chapter 502 . (b) The department may not issue a driver's license to a new resident who fails to comply with Subsection (a). (c) A registration receipt issued by a county assessor-collector in this state is satisfactory evidence that a motor vehicle is registered under Chapter 502 .
