Sec. 351.034. ADMINISTRATOR. (a) The sheriff of the county in which the jail is located shall serve as administrator of the jail. (b) The sheriff may decline to serve as administrator by filing a written statement with the commissioners court of that county. (c) If the sheriff declines to serve as administrator, the commissioners courts of the contracting counties shall jointly appoint a jail administrator. Until an individual is appointed and assumes the duties of jail administrator, the sheriff shall serve as administrator of the jail. (d) If there is a vacancy in the position of jail administrator, the sheriff shall serve as administrator of the jail until a new jail administrator is appointed and assumes the position.
