As used in this chapter, unless the context otherwise requires: (1) "Commissioner" means the commissioner of commerce and insurance; (2) "Intern sponsor" means any qualified licensed Tennessee examiner who is approved by the commissioner for the purpose of supervising and furthering the education of the intern during the commissioner approved training program; (3) "Internship" means the study of polygraph techniques and of the administration of polygraph techniques by a trainee, referred to as an "intern" in this chapter, under the personal supervision and control of a local licensed polygraph examiner in accordance with a course of study prescribed by the commissioner at the commencement of the internship; (4) "Person" means any natural person, firm, association, copartnership or corporation; and (5) "Polygraph examiner" means any person who purports to be able to detect deception or verify truth of statements through instrumentation or by means of a mechanical device.
