Emancipation Day

August 8 of each year shall be observed as "Emancipation Day," to honor and recognize the celebration of the action of Andrew Johnson in freeing Andrew Johnson's personal slaves on August 8, 1863, and the significance of emancipation in the history of Tennessee. This day shall not be a legal holiday as defined in § 15-1-101 . Amended by 2020 Tenn. Acts, ch. 707, s 5, eff. 6/22/2020. Acts 2007 , ch. 15, § 1.
