In a municipality governed by a mayor and common council pursuant to chapter 9-8 , the mayor may remove from office any officer appointed by the mayor, if the mayor believes the removal is in the interest of the municipality. The mayor shall report the reasons for removal to the common council at the next regular meeting. The report may be given in executive session, pursuant to § 1-25-2 , but in all cases the fact of the presentation of the report must be placed in the minutes of the meeting.
