Any nonprofit hospital service plan that delivers or issues for delivery in this state service or indemnity type contracts to any individual subscriber or group shall offer, in writing, to include in such contracts issued or renewed on or after July 1, 1979, coverage for the inpatient treatment of alcoholism in licensed hospitals and residential primary treatment facilities approved by the State of South Dakota which are carrying out an approved program pursuant to diagnosis and recommendation of a doctor of medicine. When coverage for inpatient treatment of alcoholism is included in any policy or contract, such coverage shall include treatment at any South Dakota approved inpatient alcoholism treatment facility.
