Subpoena and examination of witnesses in investigations--Expenses and per diem of witnesses

The auditor

general and his assistants, examiners, or auditors shall be authorized to issue subpoenas for the attendance of witnesses and for the production of records in connection with any post

audit, investigation, or examination being conducted by any of them. They shall have power to administer oaths to witnesses. No witness shall be entitled to demand or receive his traveling fees or per diem in advance in such cases. The expenses and per diem of such witnesses and service of subpoenas shall be paid by the state when any state department, institution, or office is under investigation and by the particular political subdivision of the state of which any office or account is under investigation.
