South Dakota Code § 36-36-5

Application for license--Fee--Qualifications

Any person desiring to engage in the practice of genetic counseling in this state shall apply to the board for a license and pay the license fee. The application shall contain the information the board may require. The license fee shall be established by the board by rules promulgated pursuant to chapter
1-26
. The license fee may not exceed two hundred dollars. The board may grant a license to any applicant who gives satisfactory proof of being of at least eighteen years of age and who is of good moral character and also fulfills the following requirements:
(1) Education at one of the following levels:
(a) Master's degree from a genetic counseling training program that is accredited by the ACGC and approved by the board; or
(b) Doctoral degree from a medical genetics training program that is accredited by the ABMGG and approved by the board; and
(2) Successful completion of all requirements of the certification examination within a period not to exceed four years from initial examination to successful completion and with no more than two attempts.
