Terms used in this chapter mean: (1) "Health care procedure," an act of diagnosis, treatment, or care to a patient for which compensation is or may be charged; (2) "Health care provider," any licensed health care facility licensed pursuant to chapter 34-12 or any practitioner of the healing arts, including a physician licensed under chapter 36-4 , dentist, optometrist, podiatrist, chiropractor, physical therapist, respiratory care practitioner, occupational therapist, or psychologist; (3) "Patient," an individual who receives, or requests to receive, diagnosis, treatment, or care from a health care provider.
