Odometer information on certificate--Required on sale--Falsification as felony

Each certificate of title issued by the department for a motor vehicle equipped with an odometer shall contain odometer disclosure information which complies with the provisions of the Truth in Mileage Act of 1986 (Public Law 99-579) as amended as of December 4, 2015.
Upon the sale or trade

in of a motor vehicle, the owner, seller, or auctioneer shall accurately complete the odometer disclosure information contained on the vehicle's title document and, if applicable, the secured power of attorney before surrendering or transferring the title. It is a Class 6 felony to falsify any information contained within the odometer disclosure statement. The department may refuse to transfer the title or issue a new title if the owner, seller, or auctioneer does not complete the odometer disclosure information on the vehicle title.
