Council created — Appointment of members

The greenways council shall consist of seven (7) members to be appointed in the following manner: Two (2) members shall represent the public and shall be appointed by the governor with the advice and consent of the senate; one member shall be a city or town official and shall be appointed by the governor; one member shall be the director of administration, or the director’s designee; one member shall be the chief executive officer of the commerce corporation, or the chief executive officer’s designee who shall be a subordinate within the commerce corporation who shall serve as a nonvoting ex officio member; one member shall be the director of the department of environmental management, or the director’s designee who shall be a subordinate within the department of environmental management; and one member shall be the director of the department of transportation, or the director’s designee who shall be a subordinate within the department of transportation. No one shall be eligible for appointment unless the person is a resident of this state. The members of the council shall serve without compensation. Those members of the council as of the effective date of this act [April 20, 2006] who were appointed to the council by the governor shall continue to serve the balance of their current terms. Thereafter, members shall be appointed to three-year (3) terms. All appointments made under this section after the effective date of this act [April 20, 2006] shall be subject to the advice and consent of the senate.
