Lifesaving equipment required at all lakes and ponds

(1) All cities and towns shall supply and maintain one hundred and fifty feet (150′) of rope and a lifesaving buoy at ponds and lakes located within their respective boundaries during the designated periods of time which swimming, boating or other recreational activities are authorized by the city or town to take place. (2) The chief of the municipal fire department or his or her designee of the city or town where the lake or pond is located shall be responsible for determining the sites where the safety equipment is needed. (3) The provisions of this section shall not apply to any public beaches or swimming areas owned and/or maintained by the state.
