Alteration of identification numbers

Any person who shall alter the identification number of any item of electronic equipment as defined in this chapter shall, upon conviction, be sentenced as follows: (1) If the value of the property exceeds five hundred dollars ($500), by imprisonment for not more than three (3) years, or by a fine of not more than five thousand dollars ($5,000), or both; (2) If the value of the property does not exceed five hundred dollars ($500), the person shall be punished by imprisonment for not more than one year, or by a fine of not more than one thousand dollars ($1,000), or both.
