(a) Snowmobiles.-- It is unlawful to operate a snowmobile which is not equipped with at least one brake of a design approved by the department operated either by hand or by foot, capable of bringing the snowmobile to a stop, under normal conditions, within 40 feet when traveling at a speed of 20 miles per hour with a 150 pound driver and on hard packed snow, or locking its traction belt or belts. The design shall permit simple and easy adjustment to compensate for wear. (b) ATV's.-- It is unlawful to operate an ATV which is not equipped with a braking system which may be operated by hand or foot, capable of producing deceleration of 14 feet per second on level ground at a speed of 20 miles per hour, and the design must permit simple and easy adjustment to compensate for wear.
