The Department of Corrections shall establish an intensive alternative incarceration addiction program. The program shall: (1) Address addiction as a chronic disease, recognizing that participants have individualized needs and different recovery progressions; (2) Require compliance with program rules; (3) Include a range of professional treatment services, recovery activities, engagement with peer mentors, educational and vocational services and self-help groups; (4) Provide addiction treatment that incorporates proven, research-based interventions; (5) Be trauma-informed and gender-responsive; and (6) Be at least 270 days duration.
