(1) No person who is a member of, or affiliated with, any organization which teaches the doctrine of, or advocates, the overthrow of the Government of the United States by force or violence shall be a candidate for public office or eligible for appointment to a public office. (2) The name of a person defined in subsection (1) of this section shall not be placed upon any ballot in connection with any election.
