insurance or surety bonds. No officer, consultant, agent, or employee of the Authority and no person acting or purporting to act on behalf thereof shall, with respect to any contract, require the contractor or any subcontractor to make application to or to obtain or procure any of the surety bonds and any other type of insurance specified in connection with such contract, or specified by any law, from a particular insurance or surety company, agent, or broker. This section shall not, however, prevent the exercise, by such officer or employee, on behalf of the Authority, of the right to approve the form, sufficiency, or manner of execution of the surety bonds or other type of insurance contracts furnished by the insurance or surety company selected by the contractor or subcontractor to underwrite the bonds, or other types of insurance contracts. Any provisions in any invitation for bids, or in any of the contract documents, in conflict herewith are hereby declared to be contrary to the public policy of this state. A violation of this section shall constitute a misdemeanor.
