Title 69. Roads, Bridges, And Ferries: U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Ruben Rivers Highway

The section of State Highway 9 from Skagg City Road east to the
intersection of State Highway 9-A in Pottawatomie County shall be
designated the “U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Ruben Rivers Highway”.  SSG
Ruben Rivers was killed in action during World War II on November
19, 1944.  He was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for his
heroic efforts as a member of the 761st Tank Battalion, the first
African-American armored unit to serve in combat.  In addition to
the Medal of Honor, Staff Sergeant Rivers was awarded the Silver
Star for previous action with his battalion.  The Department of
Transportation shall cause suitable markers to be placed upon that
section of highway bearing that name.
