Effective: October 1, 1953 Latest Legislation: House Bill 1 - 100th General Assembly When street railways are operated by electricity, cable, compressed air, or other motive power in a municipal corporation, the legislative authority of such municipal corporation, by ordinance, may require the owners or operators of such railways to place watchmen at street crossings, intersections, or corners which such legislative authority deems dangerous. The legislative authority may provide for the enforcement of such ordinances by penalties in the way of fine or imprisonment, or both, to be imposed upon the owner, officer, or operator of such railways, or by a forfeiture of not exceeding one hundred dollars per day, which may be recovered by such municipal corporation in a civil suit against the owners or operators of any such railway failing to place such watchmen as are required.
