Magistrates - Appointment - Salary - Authority

The presiding judge of a judicial district may appoint, subject to rules adopted by the 
supreme court, any qualified person, including a clerk of the district court, to serve as 
magistrate. A magistrate appointed pursuant to this section may be paid a salary as determined 
by the supreme court and has that authority performable by a district court judge as assigned by 
the presiding judge. The supreme court may adopt rules for the qualifications of magistrates, the 
extent and assignment of authority, and the conduct of the office, including rules relating to 
training sessions and continuing education.
