Powers and duties of the department

For the protection of the public health and safety, the department shall:
1. Evaluate hazards associated with the use of sources of ionizing radiation by inspection 
and other means.

2. Conduct programs compatible with federal programs for the licensing and regulation of 
byproduct, source, special nuclear materials, and other radioactive materials.
3. Advise, consult, and cooperate with other public agencies and with affected groups 
and industries.
4. Administer the statewide licensing and regulatory radiation program.
