Whenever, pursuant to the laws of this state, the sheriff is required to serve or execute any 
summons, order, or judgment, or to do any other act, the sheriff shall be bound to do so in like 
manner as upon process issued to the sheriff and shall be liable equally in all respects for 
neglect of duty. If the sheriff is a party, the coroner shall be bound to perform the service, as the 
coroner is bound to execute process when the sheriff is a party. The provisions of title 28 
relating to the sheriff shall apply to coroners when the sheriff is a party.
