North Carolina Code § 7A-140.1

Age limit for service as district judge; exception.

No district judge may continue in office beyond the last day of the calendar year in which the district judge attains 72 years of age, but district judges so retired may be recalled for periods of temporary service as provided in Subchapter III of this Chapter.
