* § 404-u. Distinctive "Erie canal" license plates. 1. Any person\nresiding in this state shall, upon request, be issued a distinctive\n"Erie canal" license plate of a design approved by the commissioner.\nApplication for said license plate shall be filed with the commissioner\nin such form and detail as the commissioner shall prescribe.\n  2. A distinctive "Erie canal" license plate issued pursuant to this\nsection shall be issued in the same manner as other number plates upon\npayment of the regular registration fee prescribed by section four\nhundred one of this article and an additional annual service charge of\ntwenty-five dollars. Twenty dollars from each twenty-five dollars\nreceived as annual service charges under this section shall be deposited\nto the credit of the Erie canal museum fund, established as a revolving\nfund pursuant to section ninety-seven-cccc of the state finance law.\nProvided, however, that one year after the effective date of this\nsection, funds in the amount of five thousand dollars, or so much\nthereof as may be available, shall be allocated from such fund to the\ndepartment to offset costs associated with the production of such\nlicense plates.\n  * NB There are 4 § 404-u's\n
