§ 617. Recalculation of benefits. a. Notwithstanding any other\nprovision of law, any person who has retired pursuant to the provisions\nof article fourteen of this chapter on or before August thirty-first,\nnineteen hundred eighty-three, whether for service retirement or for\nordinary or accidental disability retirement, may elect to have his or\nher retirement benefits recalculated pursuant to this article, from such\nperson's date of retirement; provided, however, such person was not\nemployed in a position excluded from the application of this article by\nparagraphs one through five of subdivision a of section six hundred of\nthis article. The recalculation of benefits shall be based upon the\noption selection originally filed for retirement.\n  b. To elect the recalculation, such person shall, on or before\nDecember thirty-first, nineteen hundred ninety-nine, file a request for\nsuch recalculation with the appropriate retirement system in the form\nand manner prescribed by the head of such retirement system.\n
