§ 173. Discharge of petroleum; prohibition. 1. The discharge of\npetroleum is prohibited.\n 2. On or after January first, nineteen hundred ninety-four, all new\nvessels sold in New York that are equipped with fuel tank air vents\nshall have such fuel tank air vents designed to prevent fuel overflow\nduring refueling. The provisions of this subdivision shall not apply to\nthose fuel systems in vessels which are required to meet the standards\nprovided for in the Federal Boat Safety Act of 1971.\n 3. This section shall not apply to discharges of petroleum pursuant to\nand in compliance with the conditions of a federal or state permit.\n
