New York Judiciary Code § 61

§ 61. Definitions. For the purpose of this article, the following\nterms shall have the following meanings:\n  1. "Commission" means the commission on judicial nomination.\n  2. "Candidate" means a person who is constitutionally eligible to hold\nthe office of chief judge or associate judge of the court of appeals and\n(a) who has requested the commission to consider his qualifications to\nhold such office; or (b) who has been recommended for consideration by\nthe commission by another person, including a community or professional\norganization; or (c) who has agreed to be considered by the commission\nat the commission's request.\n
