§ 222. Expenses of judges and justices. Notwithstanding any other\nprovision of law, and subject to such rules and regulations as the chief\nadministrator shall prescribe:\n  (a) each judge of the court of appeals, each justice of the supreme\ncourt, including the justices of the appellate divisions thereof, and\neach judge of the court of claims shall be reimbursed for his or her\nactual and necessary transportation expenses, and such other travel\nexpenses not to exceed seventy-five dollars per day as he or she shall\nactually and necessarily incur in the performance of his or her judicial\nduties outside the county wherein he or she is provided chambers and\nother than in a county having a population in excess of seven hundred\nthousand or in a city having a population in excess of one million, and\nnot to exceed one hundred fifteen dollars per day in a county having a\npopulation in excess of seven hundred thousand or in a city having a\npopulation in excess of one million. For the purpose of such\nreimbursement of expenses, the city of New York shall be deemed to be\none county;\n  (b) when any judge of the county court, the surrogate's court, the\nfamily court, the district court, the civil court of the city of New\nYork or the criminal court of the city of New York shall be required to\nperform judicial duties outside the county of his residence, he or she\nshall be reimbursed for his or her actual and necessary transportation\nexpenses, and such other travel expenses not to exceed seventy-five\ndollars per day incurred other than in a county having a population in\nexcess of seven hundred thousand or in a city having a population in\nexcess of one million, and not to exceed one hundred fifteen dollars per\nday in a county having a population in excess of seven hundred thousand\nor in a city having a population in excess of one million. For the\npurpose of such reimbursement of expenses, the city of New York shall be\ndeemed to be one county.\n
