Effect on existing laws; transition period

§ 769. Effect on existing laws; transition period. Subject to the\nprovisions of the joint consolidation agreement or elector initiated\nconsolidation plan, as the case may be, pertaining to the common\nadministration and uniform enforcement of laws in the consolidated local\ngovernment entity, all local laws, ordinances, rules or regulations of\nthe component local government entities in effect on the effective date\nof consolidation shall remain in full force and effect within the\nrespective areas of the component local government entities that existed\nprior to consolidation, insofar as the local laws, ordinances, rules or\nregulations are not repugnant to law, until repealed or amended. As soon\nas practicable but not later than two years after the effective date of\nconsolidation, the governing body of the consolidated local government\nentity shall adopt new local laws, ordinances, rules and regulations as\nnecessary to redress conflicts and otherwise redress ambiguities arising\namong the then-existing laws, ordinances, rules or regulations for the\ncommon administration and uniform governance of the consolidated local\ngovernment entity.\n
